Matthew Callister
Former Nevada Senator, Matthew Quayle Callister, was born on December 5th, 1955 in Las Vegas, Nevada. After his childhood, he began his life with serving as a Mormon missionary in Corpus Christi, Texas for two years. Living life outside of his hometown, Callister experienced the poverty and hardships of the real world. These worldwide troubles are what inspired Matthew to create a life for himself in politics.
In the 1990's, Matthew Callister ran for Nevada State Senator. Even though he disliked the electoral process extremely due to the corruption found in politics, he was elected and sworn in as Senator in 1993 (seen in the picture to the left). During his time as Nevada Senator, Matthew worked on issues such as class-size reduction and mental health funding.
Callister worked as both a lawyer and the state Senator from 1993 to 1997. The stress built up from both jobs created an uneasy life for Callister and his family, which led to him step down as Senator in 1997. After his two terms as Senator, Matthew went on to serve as a Nevada city councilman. Eventually, he decided that having a career in politics and law at the same time was not working well and left politics altogether.
